Rating: 5/5
This book is a must read! It begins simply, with a body, as this type of story often does. When Sergeant Fisher, our protagonist, arrives at the scene, she finds the mangled body of a childhood friend, and here the reader is shown the first of many complexities that are peppered throughout the story. These plot twists build tension and add to the draw.
As the Black Hawk County Sherriff’s office, led by Sergeant Fisher, investigates the horrifying crime, the web grows larger and larger, pulling ever more powerful and influential players into view until it climaxes with a powerful, action-filled ending.
As the plot and characters develop, they become more complicated and intriguing, but never unbelievable or overdone. Erin Young has done a fantastic job of drawing the reader in and offering multiple possible solutions, so that as one ending seems possible, another one also appears plausible.
The Fields, is a perfectly paced thriller with intriguing characters and an enthralling plot. It is not rushed, nor does it drag. Young has created an adventure that beckons the reader to participate.
