The Enigma Affair by Charlie Lovett is one of those epic yet unforgettable stories that stays for a lifetime. It features a hostile yet deadly scenario of what happened in World War II to reoccur. That alone is a nightmare that many have never forgotten. It still haunts many. Being of Jewish heritage the realities of this possibly happening was torture. It makes my heart race to think of it. There are many who try to bring about the evil reign of Nazis back to life. Money and power are always the culprits in these geopolitical wars.
As I read this book, I am taken back in time and to places that still exist today. Charlie Lovett brilliantly creates a tale that engages the reader. I feel a connection to each character and to their goals. The villains were just as impressive and frightening, too. Alchemy along with the death and destruction brings forth a dark edgy vibe. I love the suspense built with every page.
Once I was past the introductions, I went on a journey. A journey that stops the unthinkable from happening all over again. From the use of violence forcing two strangers into a partnership into a dark world, comes forth an adventure of a lifetime. Violence, codes, and spies this novel had an espionage thrill. Charlie writes in a way that keeps me guessing. I was sure the characters would have met their deaths a lot sooner. So many twists and turns to keep the pages turning. The title perfectly suits this historical novel. Eerie, entertaining, and intriguing this book is a keeper. Especially for fans of history, war, espionage and thrillers, this is a must read! I loved the characterization and the action-packed scenes. Overall, I am definitely keeping an eye out for the next book by Charlie Lovett.
