The Busy Woman’s Guide to Writing a World-Changing Book is written specifically for busy women. Cynthia Morris, the author, is a busy woman herself, having published eight books while maintaining her career as a coach and mentor for writers, artists and entrepreneurs. The Busy Woman’s Guide… provides direction and encouragement for those of us that have dreamt of writing a book and need a few clues on how to begin a ‘world-changing book’. Morris attempts to educate and simplify the process of bringing a book from concept to finished product and ultimately publishing.

The Busy Woman’s Guide is geared towards memoirs and non-fiction, but if you are writing fiction, you can still pick up some good tips. I really liked that the book was under 200 pages and the chapters were very short. The guide is packed with practical tips and solutions, free-write prompts, self-inquiry exercises and writing practices.
Morris divides her guide into five parts, with the largest part of the book devoted to psychological readiness and averting some of the pitfalls associated with writing a book. The remainder of the book covers ways to become inspired, how to set up a consistent writing practice, organizing writing material, revising and finishing your book. Exercises follow every chapter, designed to assist busy women in excavating the kind of writer they want to be and explore the multitude of possibilities about how to accomplish the task of writing a novel and balancing a busy lifestyle.

I thought Morris’s book served as an enthusiastic cheerleader, providing practical solutions to many of the challenges writers often face. The Busy Woman’s Guide to Writing a World-Changing Book is a great writing tool that supports a busy woman’s deep dive into self-inquiry thereby enhancing her writing practice.
