I really enjoyed this story and found myself completely pulled into this world. S.A. Chakraborty is an extremely well-known author famous for her The City of Brass series that has been widely acclaimed. This new start to a series solidifies her as one of the best fantasy writers out there, in my opinion. The Adventures of Amina Al-Sirafi was incredible and I loved the world building that took place as it really brought these characters to life!
Amina Al-Sirafi is retired, after a long and illustrious career, and should be perfectly happy being home with her young daughter. As one of the most famous pirates, she has earned a little rest and relaxation under the radar in peace. However, when she is found by a wealthy woman, the mother of a former crew member, and offered a job, she finds it hard to refuse. When this request becomes more of a threat, she literally cannot refuse and finds herself thrust back into her old world of adventure and pirates. First, she must gather her former crew, many of whom she is unsure if they will want to see her let alone work with her again. But once together, they embark on this quest to save the daughter of their former friend. Yet the closer they get to finding the missing child the more it becomes abundantly clear that there is more to this job than was originally said. As the supernatural begins to play a role in threatening Amina and her crew, one particularly pesky supernatural being in particular, they will all be tested in this final job.
One thing this book told me is that I need more stories about female kick-a** pirates! This was a wonderful adventure, and I CANNOT wait for the second in this series to be available. I would highly recommend this story for anyone who wants an escape lead by a fierce and captivating female pirate!
