Mr Doubler, the second largest potato grower in the land still uses archaic farming methods, but unknown to his fiercest competitor he is a step close to some breakthrough that would probably revolutionise the potato farming industry. He has been living alone in his farm since the breakdown of his marriage. His only contact with outside civilization has been his cleaning lady Mrs. Millwood with whom he shares interesting daily conversations over lunch and has become his confidante. When she gets taken ill, Mr. Doubler finds himself missing her terribly and realizes how important a big part of his life she has become.
Although I couldn’t relate to the main character, Mr. Doubler, that didn’t stop me from being sympathethique. The book is well researched and there are very funny and peculiar characters who would come to Mr. Doubler’s aid. The story is easy to follow and tell us that it is never too late to love again.
Nice story, but it was not really my cup of tea, to be honest.
