What an intense and gripping story – I read it in one day!

I’ve been reading a lot of stories that take place in wild and exotic places. And since one of the best parts of reading a book is to escape reality, this book was perfect for that.

Franny Stone has always loved exotic birds and just like them, she can’t settle in one place. She follows the birds to the most wonderful and remote locations to study them and to take part in the species conservation efforts.
She needs to find a ride on a boat ride to the Antarctic. She persuades the captain of a fishing boat called The Saghani to let her join the crew. In exchange, she offers the knowledge of where to catch the best fish. The crew of The Saghani are curious about Franny and they don’t understand why their captain Enie agreed to have her on board. The stories of the people on the boat are very interesting and I really enjoyed reading about them. Little by little, they try to figure Franny out.

The chapters switch between the past and the present, and the author did a great job with keeping Franny’s past a mystery. Why is she so haunted? Why is it so hard for her to bond with people?

Franny had once been married to Niall, an older man that used to be her professor. He had always seen Franny as an exotic animal that needed to be studied. But he had no idea what he was getting himself into since Franny is disturbed and mysterious.

I was immersed in the story, in its beautiful and wild scenarios, and I highly recommend it!
