What an unexpected delightful romance novel! Meet Me in Monaco by Hazel Gaynor and Heather Webb is a riveting historical fiction that bewitches the heart.
In the backdrop of Grace Kelly’s whirlwind courtship and wedding to Prince Rainier of Monaco, a simmering romance unravels between Sophie Duval, a parfumeur, and James Henderson, a photographer. In a serendipitous meeting with Grace Kelly, both Sophie and James form a bond, not only in romance but also in attempts to save their careers.
I devoured this book in one sitting. I couldn’t put it down. Not only did it have that captivating romance churning between Sophie and James, there are glimpses into Grace Kelly and Prince Rainier’s relationship that drew me into the 1950s’ glitz and glam! It is an intoxicating novel that makes me want to go watch old black and white movies of Grace Kelly!
Hazel Gaynor and Heather Webb are a dynamic duo when it comes to their writing. From character development, to the dialogue, even the descriptions of the settlings, I felt like I was right there in the French Riviera watching Grace Kelly walk down the aisle at St. Nicholas Cathedral. It is filled with rich details that draw you into the story itself.
The only disappointing aspect of this novel is the predictability. There were some rather expected clichés that come hand-in-hand with romance novels. But taking that aside, this is more of a romance, and less of a historical fiction novel.
This is a stunning story of friendship and love. Meet Me in Monaco by Hazel Gaynor and Heather Webb is a poignant and charming love story that dazzles from start to finish. I highly recommend this to anyone looking for a summer read. This book is to be published July 23, 2019.
