I’m a huge Historical Fiction buff, so it’s no surprise this book was right up my street. Pair the genre with good wine and good food and frankly you can’t really go wrong.

This isn’t author Ann Mah’s first rodeo. She’s written other books about food, love, and family. But The Lost Vintage is different than any of her previous books – it’s fiction and full of beautiful descriptive language; you can almost taste the food and wine as you read.

The story starts with Kate who wants to be a wine expert, but in order to do so she must take a infamously difficult exam. This will be her third and last time writing the test.

A few months before the test, she set off for Burgundy to spend time at her mom’s family vineyard with her cousin Nico and his wife, Heather. Enter Jean-Luc, an old flame of hers that she’d rather avoid. Between this story line and her family’s history during a particularly dark time in history, you’ll be hooked. It’s light when it calls for it and intense in just the right places – a riveting read.

A great book club book, but also a superb flashlight under the cover late into the night read!
