Rating 5/5
Home Sweet Christmas by Susan Mallery is a perfect read for this time of year. The novel features themes of family, work life, and finding love. The most interesting part is that this novel contains two stories within one novel. In the beginning, we have a woman who finds the small-town to be exactly what she is wanting. Next thing she knows, an older woman is trying to hook her up with her son. A man that does pique the interest of the heroine. But she pushes aside the feelings. Camryn does the least expected thing of all. She marches straight into Jake’s office and tells him about his mother’s plan. Jake appreciates Camryn for telling him. Later, he deals with his mom. A mom who wants grandkids. Both Camryn and Jake’s mom are strong female characters. They go for what they want. When they mean business, they are a strong force. But what neither Jake or Camryn realize is that the seed of them being together takes root. It is only a matter of time.
Next, there is the second couple. Jake’s mother sets up two more adults. She forces Jake’s friend Dylan to be King and River as queen. By placing them in charge of the Christmas festivals they need to spend time doing things together. Due to their royal duties, this second couple ends up spending a lot of time together. The more time spent, the more they cannot fight their attraction.
Susan Mallery writes with such warmth and humor. It is difficult to not laugh so hard and fall deeply for the characters. I enjoyed following the characters as they experienced the magic of Christmas and the true meaning of love. Family and friends are special. This novel demonstrates the importance of being with the ones we love. Work is great. But there is more to life than working. I highly recommend this novel for all fans of Hallmark. This book gets me into the spirit of Christmas. From baking cookies to Christmas tree lighting, this story has it all.
