I am an absolute fanatic for the United Kingdom. All things English are so interesting to me including the Royal Family and the rich history of London. I have been following Megan Clawson on Tik Tok and love learning all about the Tower of London. She shares wonderful stories about the actual tower, how she lives there with her beefeater father and all the fun history details that not everyone knows! I found it so fascinating that she lives in an actual Castle.
When she started discussing that she was writing a book I knew I wanted to read it, and her book didn’t disappoint me!
I know I’ve said it before, I’m not a huge fan of romance books however, this book was so different than the typical romance novel. I found this novel went a bit deeper than a general fluffy romance book. I really appreciated the deep historical roots this book had, I found they were woven into the story so beautifully and left me wanting more.
The development of the characters were so WELL DONE. I feel the author took the time to really plot out what she wanted each and every character to be like. I didn’t feel like something was missing at all from Freddy or Maggie.
The raw and vulnerable side of Maggie was done in such a relatable way. It didn’t seem overdone which we have seen with other romance books. The way she keeps putting herself out there time and time again was something I definitely cheered for!
I laughed out loud many times when we were taken on the journey with Maggie and all her dates from guys she met online, from the catfish to ducking out the open window to being left all alone at a restaurant when she thought her “date” was going to get her a drink. I could visualize some of the scenes playing out as I was reading!
The ending despite being predictable was well done, I liked how things ended, it didn’t feel rushed or to much like a fairy tale. I cheered for Maggie the entire time, she stayed true to herself and what she wanted for herself. She didn’t let anyone take that away from her and I appreciated that aspect.
Overall this book was really good! I would recommend it to anyone who likes romance books sprinkled with some history of the Tower of London!
