Have you ever wondered what it’s like for the people behind the scenes of a presidential election? For the staff, the strategists, the reporters, etc.? Now how about for the families of those workers who are on the road for the better part of a year? Meet Cady, Birdie, Jay, Regan, and Madison-the group at the core of this novel. They each have their own backstory and role, but they all comprise the campaign widows.
This book was not a favorite of mine, however, that being said, I did find it to be an entertaining read that was a good escape. While I found myself laughing often during the story, I had a hard time really connecting with the characters. The overall plot was interesting, specifically what is it like for the people who have loved ones in politics during a presidential election, and how that impacts their personal lives.
When reading this novel I almost felt as if I was in a DC political soap opera, which was enjoyable at times but also could be a tad cliche at others. I did find one character, in particular, to be very entertaining and found myself enjoying her storyline most of all- I’ll leave you to identify your favorite character. Overall, I would recommend this book for those looking for a light, easy, and funny read; a perfect book to take on vacation!
