A twisted love story, indeed! Full of toxicity, Ivy and Wes’ relationship definitely lives up to the title. Many of us play little games in our relationships to keep things fun – surprise dinner dates and family game nights — but nothing as serious as Wes and Ivy. Stalking, huge fights just for the satisfaction of making up, and damaged property are just the beginning of their relationship shenanigans. One “game” takes it a little too far and a determined detective now has her sights set on this dynamic duo. She knows there’s something more to the story and when she starts digging, she begins to connect the dots between what is happening now and the night neither Wes nor Ivy have talked about since it happened. The night someone ended up dead.

This book held my attention the entire time. What started out as a tumultuous domestic suspense quickly turned into a thrilling chase to figure out what is happening and also what is hidden at the core of their relationship. The side characters are important to the plot and I loved seeing how everyone’s storylines merged together as the plot progressed. Nothing is as it seems with Ivy and Wes and I never could have guessed how this one wrapped up at the end.

Samantha Downing has a track record of churning out twisty thrillers and this one definitely lives up to the hype. Definitely add this one to your book club list if you’re a fan of toxic relationships, cold cases, strong female main characters, police procedurals, and a fast-paced plot.
